Photo of the Day: Botallack Mine

Today’s photo is from the Botallack Mine, along Cornwall’s Tin Coast. It’s in a UNESCO world heritage site, the Cornwall Mining district. The mine is old: the area was being mined by the 1600s, and the mine shut down in the 1880s.

It’s now owned by the National Trust, and the former works are mostly open to visitors. The tunnels of the mine extended far under the sea, and the tunnels would have flooded almost immediately.

This was the first trip of my recharge. I had plans to travel around Great Britian, and see the remaining locations on my UK bucket list. However, the move back to the US took more time than I expected, and I managed to get only to Cornwall.
